Jenny was a model child she’s told
Jenny was a credit to her school
She always toed the line
followed every useless rule
Jenny should be married at midday
she can feel her heart begin to pound
Jenny’s bags are packed
and she’s not hanging around

Jenny takes a first look at life
Her father worked a night shift all his days
her mother worked all day and cried at night
she never once complained
she said that it was only right
Jenny has a boyfriend on that shift
she could sit at home with nights to let
but Jenny’s too young to die
she isn't living yet
